As forecast, there was no rain this morning — just a little airborne snow. Despite temperatures in the low 40’s and a cold northwest wind, 26 people (13 adults, 13 juveniles) participated in this walk around the lake and through the woods and fields of the Howard Christensen Nature Center.
We found 21 bird species including Sharp-shinned Hawk, Belted Kingfisher, Hairy Woodpecker, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Brown Creeper, Hermit Thrush, Chipping Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow and Eastern Towhee. Before departing we viewed the many animal mounts in the Interpretive Center and enjoyed its warmth.
Thanks to Greg Swanson for leading us around and explaining many of the natural features of this wonderful property.
